He's finally popped the question, but the big day seems too far away to start planning just yet. But to get that dream wedding just right, you'll need to get your plans in action about a year before the wedding day. Of course, you could leave it all to the last minute, but a smooth wedding takes careful planning. You'll reap the rewards of careful plannning on your wedding day!

The sooner the better...

There's some things that simply can't wait, and telling all your friends and family will be at the top of your list. But there's a few more tasks to tick off your wedding cheklist list as soon as possibe.

  • Your first of many decisions are the most important - setting your budget and deciding who's responsible for what. When you decide your budget, stick to it, and when you decide who's responsible, make sure you don't get lumbered with everthingthing! You'll also want to chose your chief bridesmaid and best man. After all, they'll get responsibilities too!
  • Set the date and book your venues for the wedding and reception. You'll need to get these booked early, so this is an absolute must. Deliberating over the perfect reception venue can take time, particulalry if you're opting for a unique setting, so the earlier the better.

Twelve to six months to go...

  • Send out your save the date cards to make sure your guests are free
  • Start looking for your wedding outfits.
  • You'll need to book your photographer and videographer at least six months before the wedding as the very best have full order books. You'll also need to book appointments to view samples and get to know your photographer.
  • Discuss menu options and prices with your caterers for your venue

Three months to go...

  • Make arrangements for your honeymoon (including any jabs and passports!). You'll also need to book the hotel for your first night.
  • Decide on a florist and make arrangements for the day.
  • Book the wedding cars for the day.
  • Order your wedding cake.
  • If you've arranged a religious ceremony, you'll need to arrange a second meeting and agree a date for publication of the banns. For a church other than the Church of England, you'll also need to give notice of your wedding.
  • Decide on a wedding gift list to include with your invites.
  • Choose your wedding rings
  • Order all your wedding stationary and get those invites and gift lists sent out!

One to two months to go...

  • Re-confirm all of your bookings made to date to ensure nothing's left to chance.
  • Buy all your wedding accessories and check the groom's organised his and the best mans clothes.
  • Pick out your presents for the attendants.

One to two weeks to go...

  • Make sure your wedding outfit fits perfectly and practice wearing those heels.
  • Confirm your requirements with the caterer and arrange a seating plan.
  • Confirm bookings for the wedding cars, photographer, flowers...

One day to go...

If you've planned everything to perfection, all you have to do now is relax. Take a long relaxing soak in the bath and get a great night's sleep.
