Your choice of photographer, and more importantly their style, has a huge impact on your wedding. She'll be an ever present feature during the day and provide those essential wedding day memories. Getting the right photograher should be at the top of your to do list. But before looking for the perfect photographer, it's essential to chose the right photography style. Yes, there's more than one way to say cheese!

From traditional to contemporary, photography style will almost certainly affect the way your day unfolds. Most of us are more familiar with a traditional photography style - the photographer is at the forefront of events. You and your guests will pose for formal shots and emphasis will be placed on set up. There's unlikely to be any surprises here, and you're guaranteed to get all your guests captured on film. It's a great way of getting everyone included (especially the camera shy) and it also adds to the formality of the day. But the process of getting everyone together can be a challenge, so make sure you budget for time!

Reportage photography loses this formality, and can uncover some hidden gems. As a 'fly on the wall' style of photography, you'll get candid shots that capture the feeling of the day. But it's an art that takes experience to master, so chosing the right photographer for a reportage style is more important. They won't have the opportunity to organise the guests or spend time setting up shots, so must have an eye for opportunity. A hard art to master, but the effects can stunning.

Take the opportunity to view a variety of different styles, especially if you've only ever experienced a contemporary style. Whichever style you chose, make sure you're happy with the photographer and are clear what style you want.
